Mochizuki's sleeping in class thinking that she's a girl who doesn't need special happiness. The whole class is staring at her and her teacher get mad and scolds her. On the next couple of pages we get to know her friends and what kind of girl Mochizuki is (she's very much an average girl). Later she meets her classmate Mutou-kun, who she's in love with. They talk a little and Mochizuki thinks about how much she likes Mutou. The meet Mutou's friend Hayami, the school's prince who is flirting with some girls. Mochizuki says goodbye to Mutou and Hayami asks him what he talked about with Mochizuki and he says nothing special. Hayami says he doesn't understand Mochizuki 'cause she isn't glaring at him, like all the other girls at school. Mutou leaves ^^
Later Mochizuki's friend Kuririn comes and tells the girls some boys made a ranking with the top girl of the class and says they should do the same with the boys. Everybody says Hayami-kun's the best looking boy and he overhears it. Suddenly Mochizuki says she doesn't like Hayami , she thinks Mutou is the best. Everybody's shocked including Hayami. The girls talk about how average Mutou is and Mochizuki says that's just fine for her. Hayami looks pissed of.
On the next day Hayami enters class and says "good morning" only to Mochizuki which shocks everybody. Mochizuki's annoyed by his behavior and later when she's walking around she overhears Mutou-kund, some other boy and Hayami talking about the ranking again and that Kuririn scored high. Hayami says Mochizuki isn't bad neither which surprises Mochizuki. Hayami asks Mutou what he thinks about her but before he can answer the misc boy says there's an rumor that she sells her body at night and that's the reason why she's always sleeping in class. Mochizuki's shocked. Mutou -kun suddenly says the misc boy shouldn't talk about rumors like that withour seeing it with his own eyes, which really touches Mochizuki. They ask him who's the best looking girl now and he says it's Kuririn…
At home Misaki's changing clothes and putting on some make up , so that she's looking really old. Outside her house there a man waiting for her and she isn't happy too see him. As they are walking on the streets, they are seen by Mutou-kun. He followers her to her working place, a bar and Misaki's shocked to see Mutou. Later she tells him she needs money 'cause her father left without paying the debts and this man is from a loan shark.. |
On the next day at school Mochizuki tells Mutou that what she told him yesterday was only a joke and she's working for fun and he says he was worried. Later Hayami comes to invite Mochizuki to a date and everybody is shocked and annoyed about that. The boys ask Hayami if he's serious about that and he says of course not.
Kuririn meets Hayami in class and says she should give up on Misaki since she likes Mutou-kun. Hayami says it's not nice of her to talk about a friends secret like this and she says she does it for him. Hayami says she does this for herself (Kuririn loves Hayami) but he hates women like her.
Mutou talks with Mochizuki about the thing with Hayami and Mutou says it's probably because of him that he's acting like that 'cause Mutou himself enjoys talking to her and Hayami gets jealous because he doesn't get this attention from Mochizuki. So…. They should go on a date to see how Hayami is reacting. That's what Mutou-kun suggests and Misaki is very much like O_O ^^. Then she says thank you but she will get to deal with Hayami somehow by herself and leaves thinking it was a pity not to say yes to Mutou's suggestion.
On the next day Mochizuki meets up with Hayami in front of the cinema. They have a little fight but after all Mochizuki thinks he's really nice with buying drinks and a ticket for her. During the film, Mochizuki says she came to tell Hayami to stop being like this to her and following her 'cause she doesn't have anything with Mutou, she's just talking to him. Hayami says he doesn't want to have girl who are in love with Mutou, which shocks Mochizuki (she didn't know Hayami knew that she liked Mutou). They get kicked out of the cinema and while argumenting again they are seen by Kuririn. They go to a park and Hayami explains thathe is cursed 'cause there were always women who fell in love with Mutou-kun and not with him and all those women's names started with "Mo". Mochizuki says this is ridiculous and that she has already given up on Mutou-kun, so Hayami should leave her alone.
Before she leaves she says that she thinks Hayami is a great guy and he's a gentlemen and she understands why all the girls like him and she smiles while he stares at her (here we have our Shoujo Manga moment when the male character falls for our heroine ^^)
At school Mochizuki greets Kuririn but she behaves strangely. She tells Mochizuki that she isn't interested in Hayami any longer. Mochizuki tells Mutou that she settled things with Hayami and he will leave her alone from now on. Later the girls are having PE class and Hayami is watching from the window. Mutou joins him and suddenly Hayami says that Mochizuki is really great. Both , Mutou and Hayami himself can't believe what he just said^^.
On the next morning, Mochizuki gets a Bento from her strange mother (I think they are a weird family and they don't really talk with each other, so Mochizuki is really happy about the Bento). At school girls ask Hayami whether he's serious about Mochizuki and he how could he ,she's ugly. Mochizuki comes up, saying "Good morning" to him, smiling happily and looking real cute. Hayami is shocked and doesn't know what to do so he screams "Leave me alone, ugly girl". Mutou watches the scene. Later he goes to Hayami and says he doesn't like how he threats the girl he is in love with and he should stop and he won't support him any longer. Kuririn overhears them.
Misaki is having lunch with her friends but a boy accidentally kicks a ball into her Bento. He apologizes but Mochizuki kicks him and starts crying. She runs away and Mutou follows her. Hayami enters the room and asks what happened. Mutou finds Mochizuki crying and says that okay and Mochizuki explains the thing with the Bento. Mochizuki thinks she really likes him. Mochizuki runs back and meets Hayami who is teasing her. Mochizuki says she decided not to give up on Mutou-kun and Hayami says that's okay, but after she's left he looks mad.
Kuririn goes to Mutou and asks him if he wants to go home with her and he says okay. On the next day at school Misaki sees a CD on Kuririns desk and Kuririn says she got it from Mutou and that she walked home with him and he's really a nice guy, just as Mochizuki said. Mochizuki looks shocked.
Misaki gets another Bento from her mother and shows it to Mutou who is really happy for her. She says she is glad he supported her and leaves. Hayami comes up and asks what they just talked about. Mutou asks whether Hayami is serious about her or not and he says he is. He asks if Mutou will support him, but Mutou says he won't. Kuririn goes to Mochizuki and tells her again how much she gets along with Mutou and Mochizuki freaks out and runs away. Misaki's friends say that was pretty nasty of Kuririn and she's like this since Mochizuki went on a date with Hayami and she cries.
Hayami goes to Mochizuki who sits outside, looking really down. She says if Kuririn loves Mutou she'll stand no chance. Hayami says she shouldn't give up and Misaki thanks him and goes back. Kuririn washes her face and Mutou stands next to her. Kuririn cries and leans on him and asks him to go out with her. Mochizuki sees it and runs away. Hayami catches up with her and Mochizuki says she must look like an idiot. Hayami hugs her and Mochizuki is surprised. Hayami says something about not wanting to see her crying face and he's there for her.
What is Sanae thinking about Dice volume 1?
I can't stop comparing this Manga with Penguin Brothers, though the story is totally different. However as usual this is a great Ayumi Shiina Manga. The story is cute (but not very new) and the characters are likeable. Normally I am a supporter of the pairing main girl x main boy, but it can't be helped, I want Hayami to be with Mochizuki, although I like Mutou-kun. But Hayami is fun and caring, so I think he deserves Mochizuki. I'm looking forward to volume 2!
